Our Favorite Wines with Antico Pizza

4 Somms, 5 pizzas, and 7 wines… Our customers are consistently asking for recommendations for Antico Pizza Napoletana, so we decided to do some serious research and figure out the best pairings. Here you go!

Margherita Pizza(san marzano tomato, bufala, basil, garlic)

Great with: 2016 Le Sot De’Lange “Sotisse” Petillant Naturel Rosé.Soft bubbles, mouth-watering acidity with notes of wild strawberry, fresh cranberry, and rose petals. Great with a simple pizza – also a great choice to drink while you are waiting on your food!!

TOP PICK: 2014 Tissot “Singulier” Trousseau. One of our top overall picks of the night. Such a versatile pizza-friendly (and food-friendly in general) wine. Round, opulent, soft tannins, notes of ripe bing cherry, red plum, hint of violets, a touch of funky minerality. So fun and delicious!

San Gennaro Pizza (salsiccia, sweet red pepper, bufala, cipolline)

Great with: 2014 Tissot “Singulier” Trousseau. See above^^

TOP PICK: 2016 Minimus Illegal. A natural wine-lovers dream. Organic, unfined, unfiltered. Super funky and fun. Totally made the sweet cherry pepper and sausage pop – the most unexpected pairing of the night!!

Capricciosa Pizza(mushroom, artichoke, prosciutto cotto, bufala)

Great with:2015 Casa Comerci “Rosina” Magliocco Canino. Light bodied with exaggerated dry tannic finish. Such an interesting wine… black currant, dried figs & plums, and black tea.

TOP PICK: 2014 Tissot “Singulier” Trousseau. Yes, it made the list again. Like we said, such a great pizza wine!

Verdura Pizza (broccoli rabe, mushroom, pomodorini, garlic)

Great with: 2015 Casa Comerci “Rosina” Magliocco Canino. See above ^^.

TOP PICK: 2015 Jean Foillard “Athanor” Morgon. Cru Beaujolais is great with this pizza – the earthy and vegetal components made a great pairing with the broccoli and mushroom! Underripe cherries, tart cranberries, rose petals, and crisp high acidity.

Diavola Pizza(spicy sopressata, pepperonata, bufala)

Great with:well… we should have brought some Chenin :(. None of the other wines paired well with the spiciness of this pizza.

TOP PICK: NV Denny Bini Dry Red Lambrusco. The hint of sweetness in this wine compliments the spiciness of the pizza perfectly. Fizzy, ripe blackberries, black & red plum, dried sour cherry.
