In Italy, Frizzante and Spumante refer to two distinct styles of sparkling wine, differentiated primarily by their level of carbonation. Frizzante wines are semi-sparkling, with a lower atmospheric pressure (typically around 1–2.5 bar), resulting in a softer, gentler effervescence. These wines are often more casual, easy-drinking, and can be sealed with a screw cap, cork, or a string closure known as spago. They're popular for their freshness and lightness, making them ideal for everyday enjoyment.

Spumante, on the other hand, is fully sparkling with higher pressure (over 3 bar), producing more persistent and vigorous bubbles. This style is used for more celebratory wines and includes well-known examples like Prosecco Spumante, Franciacorta, and Asti Spumante. Spumante wines are typically made using the Charmat or Traditional Method and offer a broader range of expressions—from dry and elegant to sweet and aromatic—depending on the region and grape variety. Both styles reflect Italy’s rich and diverse sparkling wine tradition, each suited to different occasions and palates.
