ABOUT THIS WINE
“Overture” is the second wine of the iconic Opus One estate and offers a unique perspective on their craft. Unlike the flagship Opus One, which is vintage-specific, Overture is a multi-vintage blend, allowing greater flexibility and balance by combining the strengths of different years. The 2021 bottling, while labeled with its release year, is a combination of recent vintages—primarily based on Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec in supporting roles.
Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, the wine displays refinement and approachability in youth, while retaining structure for medium-term aging. The fruit is drawn from the same meticulously farmed Opus One estate vineyards in Oakville, where vine age, soil composition, and microclimate contribute to a deep, consistent character.
Overture is deep ruby in hue and opens with expressive dark fruit, graphite, cocoa nib, and hints of dried herbs. The texture is seamless and silky, with ripe tannins and vibrant acidity. Its balance makes it versatile with food—pair it with seared duck breast, beef tenderloin, mushroom risotto, or aged Gruyère.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Opus One Winery represents a historic partnership between two wine legends: Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux. Founded in 1978, Opus One has since become one of Napa’s most prestigious wineries, blending Old World elegance with New World innovation.
Located in the Oakville AVA, the estate is dedicated to producing a single proprietary red wine each vintage, with Overture as a complementary expression. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and with precision, emphasizing biodiversity, soil health, and vine balance. Winemaking is meticulous and guided by the principle of letting the vineyard speak through minimal intervention.
Overture reflects the estate’s philosophy of excellence, offering a more accessible interpretation of the Opus One style—complex, expressive, and built to impress without the need for extended cellaring.
