2000 Château Haut-Brion Premier Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France

The 2000 Château Haut-Brion is a remarkable wine, showcasing the depth and complexity that has made this estate legendary. The nose is intoxicating, offering an intricate bouquet of dark fruits—blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry—alongside nuances of graphite, tobacco, and subtle hints of cigar box. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied profile with fine-grained tannins and a lush, velvety texture. The fruit is concentrated yet beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity, while layers of spice, cedar, and earthy minerality add complexity. The finish is long and sophisticated, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and a touch of leather. A wine that is drinking exceptionally well now, but will continue to evolve and reward further aging.

ABOUT THIS WINE

The 2000 vintage of Château Haut-Brion was made from a blend of 49% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Cabernet Franc, each variety carefully hand-harvested and sorted. The wine underwent fermentation in stainless-steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new). The 2000 vintage benefited from ideal weather conditions, with a warm summer leading to a perfectly ripe and balanced harvest. This wine combines the richness of Merlot with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a wine with both power and finesse. As with all Haut-Brion wines, the 2000 is built for longevity and will continue to evolve in the bottle for many years.
