2011 Château D'Armailhac Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

Refined and classically structured, the 2011 Château d’Armailhac delivers Pauillac character in a more approachable, mid-weight frame. Aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco leaf, and pencil shavings are underpinned by subtle floral and earthy tones. On the palate, it shows elegance over power—medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, lifted acidity, and a savory, graphite-tinged finish. A charming vintage that offers early drinking pleasure while still reflecting the noble gravel soils of its origin.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Château d’Armailhac is a Fifth Growth estate under the ownership of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild family, sharing its heritage and terroir with nearby Mouton Rothschild. The 2011 vintage—a cooler, more classic year—produced wines of moderate alcohol and greater freshness. The blend consists of approximately 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, grown on deep gravel soils ideal for ripening Cabernet. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in oak barrels (25–30% new) for about 16 months, the wine balances purity of fruit with structure and subtle oak influence. Best enjoyed with herb-crusted lamb, duck confit, or aged cheeses.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Château d’Armailhac, formerly known as Mouton d’Armailhacq, has a history dating back to the 18th century and lies adjacent to Château Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac. Acquired by the Rothschild family in 1933, the estate has undergone significant modernization while retaining its individual identity. With 70+ hectares of vines planted on classic Médoc gravel, the estate consistently produces Cabernet Sauvignon–led blends that emphasize elegance, freshness, and terroir fidelity. Under the stewardship of the Rothschilds and the technical direction of the Mouton team, d’Armailhac has emerged as one of Pauillac’s best-value classed growths, offering accessible structure and pedigree without excess weight.
