ABOUT THIS WINE

The 2012 Gran Reserva "Ygay" is a blend of 81% Tempranillo and 19% Mazuelo (Cariñena), sourced from the La Plana vineyard within the Ygay Estate in Rioja Alta. The vineyard, planted in 1950 at an altitude of 485 meters, is the highest in the Ygay property. The grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed before fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 10 days, with constant pump-overs and délestage to extract color and tannins. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 34 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. This extended aging process imparts complexity and depth to the wine.
