ABOUT THE WINE

Marchesi di Barolo’s Riserva is made entirely from Nebbiolo grown on selected hillsides within the Barolo appellation. Limestone and clay dominate the soils, with varying proportions of gypsum and quartz sand. These sites are selected for structure and aromas that develop over time.

The producer’s Riserva approach uses hand-picked, selected fruit, temperature-controlled fermentation in steel and skin maceration. Maturation includes both Slavonian oak casks and French oak barrels, followed by bottle refinement. Its stated profile combines rose, violet, cinnamon and nutmeg, developing tobacco, leather and truffle with age. Dry, ample and tannic yet velvety, it suits braised red meat, game or truffle pasta.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Marchesi di Barolo’s historic cellars stand in the town that gives the wine its name. The estate traces its story to the nineteenth-century Falletti family and Marchesa Giulia, whose work helped establish Barolo’s reputation.

The Abbona family acquired the cellars in 1929. Their continuing stewardship connects that history with the wines of the Langhe. Large casks remain an important part of the house’s identity, alongside attention to the differences among its vineyards and to the long development of Nebbiolo.
