2016 Hedges Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain, Columbia Valley, Washington, USA
The 2016 Hedges Cabernet is seamless, incredibly pure and layered with blackberry, cassis, anise, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, a bit of figs, vanilla bean and dusty earth with a hint of sweet spice, earth and vanilla lingering on the long finish.
ABOUT THIS WINE
Grapes are from Red Mountain AVA vineyards within a 2 mile radius of the winery: Hedges, Bel’ Villa, Les Gosses, Magdalena and Jolet. The wine was destemmed and partially crushed into stainless steel fermenters where it was pumped over twice daily until desired tannin extraction was achieved. It was then pressed to barrels where it underwent malolactic fermentation, then racked off lees and 100% barrel aged for 18 months in 33% new oak, American (63%) and French oak (37%).
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
The estate was started as Tom and Ann-Marie Hedges began shipping wine from Washington and California to Taiwan after traveling the world in the produce industry. After a a few years they purchased 50 acres in Red Mountain in the Yakima Valley and planted the Bordeaux varieties on most of the land. They went on to win many awards during the 90s which firmly established the estate in Washington.
Led by a passion for authenticity and a deep connection to the land they call home, the Hedges Family epitomizes the modern wine estate. A blend of rich cultural upbringings and a shared love for creating beautiful wine converge at the heart of bucolic Red Mountain, fostering a true homegrown approach to farming and viticulture. Hedges Family Estate unites past and present, evolving tradition for generations to come
Over the years Hedges Family Estate has helped many non-profit organizations, and continues to contribute an average 10% of net profits to charitable causes. We receive so many requests each day that it is impossible to participate in all the wonderful charities that come our way.
