2017 Château Larcis Ducasse Murmure de Larcis-Ducasse Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France

Elegant and fine red colour. On the nose, it is fresh with aromas of small black and red currants. On the palate is light and pretty, with a good spicey concentration. It is quite tender, soft and with integrated oak. We recommend pairing the wine with Beef Wellington, duck, stews of lamb and game and confit de canard.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Château Larcis Ducasse is a 1er Grand Cru Classé red wine from the Saint-Emilion appellation.

The 2017 is a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in barrels.

The 2017 vintage is known as a being a complicated one. Despite the challenges faced during the 2017 growing season in Saint-Émilion, some remarkable wines were produced. Frost caused significant damage early on, but those who mitigated losses were rewarded with richer, riper fruit. Terroir played a major role in determining the quality of the vintage, with top wines emerging from areas closest to Pomerol. The best examples exhibit a soft demeanour, bright red fruit, spice and forest floor aromas, and firm but smooth tannins, emphasizing elegance over raw power. While some wines will be suited for early drinking, the best examples should age well with proper care.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Chateau Larcis Ducasse is a traditional property with 11 hectares of very well situated vineyards on the limestone laden, south facing slopes that are just below the village.

The history of this estate goes back over 400 years and remarkably it has been under the ownership of the same family (Gratiot) the entire time, a rarity in Bordeaux. The more recent history, as in the last 20 years, has seen the family hire esteemed winemaker and vineyard manager Nicolas Thienpont. Under his direction the Chateau’s inherent quality has been accentuated and small adjustments have added to the overall excellence of the wine.
