2017 Château Mouton-Rothschild Premier Cru Classé Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
The 2017 Château Mouton-Rothschild is a wine of great elegance, precision, and subtle power, showcasing the estate’s renowned finesse and the unique character of the Pauillac terroir. The nose is deep and inviting, with aromas of dark fruits—blackberry, cassis, and ripe plum—intertwined with floral notes of violet and hints of graphite, cedar, and subtle tobacco. As the wine opens, layers of earthiness, dark chocolate, and a touch of spice emerge, adding complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with silky, finely-grained tannins that provide a refined structure, while allowing the concentrated fruit to shine. The fruit is balanced by a beautiful freshness and a fine minerality, which gives the wine a sense of precision and clarity. The oak influence is subtle, providing a touch of vanilla and spice without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, refined, and persistent, with lingering flavors of dark fruit, cocoa, and a delicate minerality that is characteristic of the estate’s terroir. While the 2017 is already approachable, it has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over the next 20 to 30 years.

ABOUT THIS WINE
The 2017 Château Mouton-Rothschild is composed of a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, with Cabernet Sauvignon playing the dominant role in the blend, providing the wine with structure and aging potential. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit was used in the final blend. After fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, followed by 18 months of aging in 100% new French oak barrels. The 2017 vintage was marked by a challenging growing season, with a cool, wet spring followed by a warm summer. However, the weather conditions improved during the harvest, allowing the grapes to reach full ripeness and balance. The result is a wine that, while more restrained than some other recent vintages, showcases the classic Mouton-Rothschild elegance and complexity, with a beautiful expression of its Pauillac origins.
