2017 El Enemigo Gran Enemigo "Chacayes" Mendoza, Argentina
The 2017 Gran Enemigo Chacayes is a bold, high-altitude red that fuses Argentine power with Bordeaux-inspired finesse. Aromatically intense, it opens with dark cherry, cassis, graphite, crushed violet, and hints of dried herbs and cacao. The palate is deep and compact, showing remarkable freshness and tension from its mountain origin. Silky tannins and vibrant acidity frame the wine’s mineral core, finishing long with a savory, almost saline edge that reflects its rocky terroir and precision winemaking.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Sourced from a single vineyard in Chacayes, located at 1,100 meters in the Uco Valley’s upper reaches, this cuvée is composed of 85% Cabernet Franc with small additions of Malbec and other Bordeaux varieties. The soils are poor and alluvial, rich in limestone, which contributes to the wine’s lift and structural clarity. The 2017 vintage was low-yielding and dry, resulting in exceptional concentration. Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 15 months in old oak foudres, the wine showcases a restrained oak profile and expressive varietal character. Crafted in a style reminiscent of Right Bank Bordeaux, yet unmistakably Andean in soul, it pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses.
