2017 Tua Rita "Redigaffi", Tuscany, Italy

The nose is intensely aromatic, bursting with layers of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums, intertwined with hints of dark chocolate, licorice, espresso, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with ultra-fine yet firm tannins supporting a dense, layered core. A lively acidity cuts through the richness, leading to a long, persistent finish, where nuances of tobacco, balsamic herbs, and exotic spices linger beautifully.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Hailing from the sun-drenched vineyards of Suvereto, Tuscany, Redigaffi is widely regarded as one of the greatest single-varietal Merlots in the world. The 2017 vintage was marked by a hot and dry growing season, resulting in lower yields but exceptional concentration and depth. The vines, rooted in a mix of clay, silt, and iron-rich gravel, contribute to the wine’s signature power and minerality.

Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, the grapes undergo fermentation in small oak vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 18-20 months in 100% new French oak, enhancing its structure and complexity. Despite the warmth of the vintage, careful vineyard management and precise vinification preserved the wine’s balance, elegance, and freshness.
