2018 Cerbaia Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
The 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino features a slightly wild side, with aromas of sour black cherry, orange zest, saddle leather, and medicinal herbs. Medium-bodied, with tangy acidity and fine tannins, it is ripe with fresh soil, crunchy red plum, cranberry, and dusty tannins that hang through the finish.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Cerbaia is a tiny estate, just 12 acres. The vines were planted in the ‘70s on northeast facing parcels, rooted in the famous Montosoli calcareous soil. Elena Pellegrini’s time at the estate has just begun and in her second vintage, she has produced an elegant rendition of Brunello. The wine sees 36 months in Slavonian oak casks and 6 months in bottle.
The high elevation and mineral soil produce naturally tiny, thick-skinned berries, perfect for making concentrated, structured wine yet with an aromatic complexity and finesse of tannin that usually reserved for wines at a much greater price.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Cerbaia ia a boutique winery dedicated to producing wines from some of the finest vineyards in Montalcino. Its Brunello is the true expression of a unique and distinctive place. In 1978, inspired by his passion for viticulture, agronomist Fabio Pellegrini converted his family farm to vine. The Cerbaia estate, with its 12 hectars of land, 4,5 of which under the Brunello appellation, is nestled on a slope in the Montosoli hill, one of the most favourable terroirs for Sangiovese in Montalcino. In 2014, moved by the passion for wine and the love for her native land, Elena, Fabio’s daughter, gave up a promising career in corporate finance to devoting herself to her family estate. Her efforts are aimed to craft elegant, perfectly balanced wines of traditional style, with patience, tenacity and a singular focus on uncompromising standards. Today, Cerbaia produces 18.000 a year, encompassing the incredibly unique combination of a highly vocated land, a traditional winemaking philosophy and the energy of a young winemaker. From the estate vineyards emerge wines which truly represent Montalcino’s authentic terroir.
