2018 Pujanza "Hado" Rioja, Spain
On the nose, it is young and full of life, with the characteristic red-berry fruit aromas of the local Tempranillo to the fore, with floral and very subtle light toasted notes coming through. On the palate Hado has a powerful, expressive attack and good acidity to keep it fresh and easy to drink, with lovely polished tannins.
ABOUT THIS WINE
Pujanza Hado is a direct, up-front wine. A Tempranillo which is representative of Laguardia, with its freshness and typicity. It is the only one of the Pujanza wines which is made from grapes from several different vineyards, split into 23 plots, which allow us to vary the final coupage every year depending on the particular features of the vintage. It is the ideal wine to begin to get to know and enjoy the wines of Pujanza.
Vinification: Pre-fermentative maceration for five days. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at between 24 and 26ºC with daily pumping over. Malolactic fermentation is conducted in the same vats.
Cask ageing: 12 months in 225 L. French-oak casks.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Carlos San Pedro is the fifth generation of a family of growers. He was born and raised among vines, barrels, vats and fermentation aromas from his ancestors’ winery, located below the family home.
At the age of 25 he decided to set up his own bodega. Initially, both the vineyards and the winemaking facilities belonged to the family. But thus began a project determined to recover the fundamental roots of Rioja, with his eyes clearly focussed on the terroir, with his own grapes and wines from a single vineyard plot which represent their origin.
In 2001 the first vintage from the current bodega was produced. A functional building with wonderful views of Laguardia and its walls and equipped for a winemaking method destined to preserve everything that has been achieved during a whole growing cycle in the vineyard.
Pujanza currently works 40 hectares of vines, all within the boundaries of Laguardia. The aim of Carlos San Pedro is to continue in the search for those special vineyards which are destined to be the source of wines with a personality of their own.
