2019 Boroli Barolo "Cerequio", Piedmont, Italy
Refined and deeply expressive, the 2019 Cerequio Barolo from Boroli reveals the grandeur and poise of one of La Morra’s most esteemed crus. Perfumed aromas of dried rose, black cherry, sandalwood, and menthol lead into a palate that is both powerful and finely structured. Silky tannins wrap around layers of ripe red fruit, savory spice, and crushed stone, culminating in a long, resonant finish that speaks of limestone, elegance, and aging potential.

ABOUT THIS WINE
The Cerequio cru, nestled between La Morra and Barolo, is celebrated for producing some of the appellation’s most perfumed and graceful wines. Boroli’s 2019 bottling captures the essence of this terroir—south-southeast facing vineyards on calcareous-clay soils at 350 meters elevation—delivering Nebbiolo of detail, tension, and aromatic depth.
The 2019 growing season was cool and slow-developing, with excellent conditions for long hang time and phenolic maturity. Grapes were harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by maceration on the skins for about three weeks. The wine was aged for 24 months in French oak barrels (a combination of large casks and tonneaux), followed by further refinement in bottle.
The result is a Barolo of layered complexity: red currant, pomegranate, and licorice meet violet, iron, and cedar in a wine that balances freshness and richness with remarkable finesse. The tannins are ripe and integrated, with the signature lift and silkiness that define Cerequio. Best from 2026–2040+.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Boroli is a modern-classic Barolo estate based in Castiglione Falletto, founded in the 1990s by the Boroli family, who transitioned from publishing to winemaking with a clear vision: to produce wines of clarity, elegance, and terroir expression. Today, under the direction of Achille Boroli, the winery emphasizes low-intervention farming and precision winemaking across its holdings in some of Barolo’s top crus.
Boroli owns vineyards in Villero, Cerequio, and Brunella, among others—each carefully farmed using sustainable practices. The winemaking philosophy focuses on expressing the identity of each cru through minimal manipulation, long maceration, and balanced use of oak.
The Cerequio bottling is the most elegant and aromatically lifted in the lineup, reflecting both the pedigree of the site and the estate’s commitment to refinement over power. With a house style that blends tradition and a modern sensitivity to structure and freshness, Boroli has emerged as a serious voice in the landscape of single-vineyard Barolo.
