2019 Boroli Barolo "Villero", Piedmont, Italy

ABOUT THIS WINE

100% Nebbiolo. The vines are in Castiglione Falletto, the heart of the Langhe and the Barolo area. The exposure is south and south-west; the soil is clayey limestone, with a depth of 1 meter on the marl. The rootstock is Kober, with a density of vines of 4500 / ha and an age of 35 years.

Following the extended winter, plant growth proceeded without any issues for their 2019 Barolo Villero. The unstable weather with moderate average temperatures persisted throughout May 2019, confirming a delay of approximately two weeks compared to the vegetative cycle of recent years, but in accordance with a more usual pattern. 

Unlike the previous year, which was remarkably early, 2019 Barolo Villero will be remembered for following a more typical path. The Nebbiolo was harvested in the second half of October, and its analytical parameters were “classic,” with good sugar content and an excellent polyphenolic profile, indicating potential for structured wines with considerable aging potential.

After harvest, grapes were destemmed and pressed. Fermentation was completed in steel at controlled temperatures for 10-15 days, with subsequent stay on the skins with submerged cap for 20-25 day, followed by racking. Malolactic fermentation takes place in small wood in room with controlled temperatures. Next, it is decanted, then taken to be aged. Aging takes place in small new and second passage wood for no less than two years. Then it is bottled - refinement is not less than a year. Often, the wine rests for 2 years

Boroli is a family-owned estate in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Piedmont’s Langhe. Founded in the 1990s, the winery is dedicated to expressing the character of Nebbiolo and the remarkable vineyards of Barolo, with prized holdings in celebrated crus including Villero and Cerequio, as well as Brunella, a vineyard exclusively owned by the Boroli family.

Today, Achille Boroli leads the estate with a thoughtful, vineyard-first approach, combining traditional Barolo winemaking with modern precision. Low yields, careful farming, long macerations, and patient aging allow each site to shine, producing wines that capture Barolo’s signature perfume, structure, and elegance while remaining beautifully expressive of place.
