2019 Casanova di Neri "Giovanni Neri" Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
The 2019 Giovanni Neri is a commanding and deeply expressive Brunello, honoring both legacy and terroir with clarity and depth. It opens with soaring aromatics of crushed wild berries, rose petal, blood orange, and sandalwood, layered with hints of incense, iron, and forest floor. The palate is powerful yet lifted—firm, polished tannins support a core of dark cherry and savory spice, while vibrant acidity gives tension and a long, mineral-driven finish. A wine of regal balance and aging potential, shaped by place and memory.

ABOUT THIS WINE
First released in 2018, Giovanni Neri is Casanova di Neri’s tribute to the estate’s founder, crafted from a single, high-elevation vineyard in the Sesta area of Montalcino. This site, planted in 1973 at approximately 400 meters above sea level, features a mix of galestro (schist), limestone, and marl—ideal for producing Sangiovese with finesse, structure, and aromatic intensity.
The 2019 vintage was marked by a long, even growing season, delivering fruit with exceptional purity and balance. Fermentation occurs naturally in conical open-top vats, followed by long maceration and aging for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks. The result is a Brunello that combines classical structure with Casanova di Neri’s signature elegance: lifted aromatics, a velvety yet tensile mouthfeel, and a finish that carries both power and detail.
This wine pairs beautifully with refined Tuscan fare—think wild boar pappardelle, bistecca alla fiorentina, or truffled pecorino. While structured for long cellaring, it already shows remarkable finesse with a proper decant.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Casanova di Neri is one of the most acclaimed estates in Montalcino, founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri and now led by his son Giacomo Neri, who continues to push the boundaries of quality and expression. Located near the town of Montalcino, the estate spans over 60 hectares of vineyards across multiple top sites, including Cerretalto, Tenuta Nuova, and Sesta.
The estate’s philosophy is rooted in precision farming, low yields, and a deep respect for site expression. Though not certified organic, sustainable practices dominate in both vineyard and cellar. Winemaking at Casanova di Neri bridges tradition and innovation—long macerations, minimal intervention, and aging in large oak casks to enhance the purity and longevity of the wines.
Giovanni Neri represents the soul of the estate: a single-vineyard Brunello crafted in honor of its founder, it is both a personal and viticultural milestone—a wine of place, memory, and enduring elegance.
