2019 Domaine Du Meix-Foulot, Mercurey, Burgundy, France
A classic expression of Mercurey, the 2019 Domaine du Meix-Foulot opens with bright red cherry, raspberry, and hints of forest floor, framed by supple tannins and a fine mineral edge. Its medium-bodied palate balances purity and structure, with lifted acidity and a savory, persistent finish. A wine that captures the precision and understated elegance of the Côte Chalonnaise.
ABOUT THIS WINE
This Mercurey Rouge is crafted from a blend of different Mercurey terroirs totaling 7 hectares, offering a harmonious introduction to the appellation's rustic charm. In its youth, the wine presents a chewy and rich structure supporting flavors of ripe strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. As it matures, it develops intriguing notes of underbrush, tobacco, and cocoa, showcasing its aging potential. The diversity of the domaine’s terroirs allows Meix Foulot to produce a consistent, balanced wine year after year. The grapes are fully destemmed and vinified with native yeast over 2-3 weeks, with malolactic fermentation completing by May or June. The wine is aged 40% in cuve and 60% in barrels (aged from 2-5 years) and bottled 16-18 months after harvest.
