2019 Pecchenino Barolo "Bussia", Piedmont, Italy

The 2019 "Bussia" Barolo from Pecchenino is a distinguished expression of Nebbiolo, hailing from one of Barolo's most esteemed crus. This wine exhibits a luminous ruby-red color that captivates the eye. The aromatic profile is intricate, featuring subtle notes of candied cherry and fragrant rose, which gracefully transition to classic Nebbiolo scents of tar, licorice, and blood orange. On the palate, it is powerful and intense, with robust tannins that lend a masculine, virile character, culminating in a long, complex finish.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the Bussia MGA, particularly the Corsini locality, the vines are Guyot-trained with a density of 5,000 plants per hectare and are approximately 18 years old. The vineyard's calcareous-clayey soil, enriched with brownish marls, and its southwest exposure at an elevation of 400 meters contribute to the wine's distinctive character. Harvested in the third week of October, the grapes undergo a long, natural fermentation, followed by aging in large oak casks for 24 months and an additional 12 months in the bottle before release.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Pecchenino is a family-owned winery with roots dating back to the late 19th century, beginning with just over 8 hectares under the management of grandfather Attilio. In the 1970s, his son Marino took over, and later, at the end of the 1980s, grandsons Orlando and Attilio assumed control. Today, the estate spans approximately 32 hectares, with vineyards in Dogliani and Monforte d'Alba. The Pecchenino family is dedicated to sustainable viticulture and producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Langhe region.
