ABOUT THE WINE

Aldo Conterno’s Barolo Bussia is made from Nebbiolo grown in several vineyards within Bussia in Monforte d’Alba. The producer uses the Michet and Lampia selections, harvesting and choosing fruit by hand from vines generally at least fifteen to twenty years old.

Fermentation takes place with extended skin contact in stainless steel. After racking, the wine moves into oak casks for maturation and refinement. The 2021 combines intensity and a rich texture with elegance and substantial structure, giving an overview of Bussia rather than the single-parcel focus of the estate’s Cicala, Colonnello and Romirasco wines.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Aldo Conterno founded his own winery in 1969 after purchasing the Favot estate in Bussia. His experience working in the family wine business, together with time spent in the United States, helped shape his ambition to build an independent domaine in Monforte d’Alba.

The estate’s identity remains closely linked to its Bussia holdings and the distinctions between individual parcels. Its Barolo wines combine careful fruit selection, skin-contact fermentation and maturation in large oak casks, bringing together traditional foundations and a continuing interest in refinement. Bussia is the broadest expression of those vineyards within the Barolo range.
