2020 Domaine Karydas Xinomavro, Naoussa, Macedonia, Greece

The 2020 Domaine Karydas Xinomavro opens with an inviting bouquet of dark cherries, dried rose petals, and a hint of earthiness. On the palate, it’s a beautiful balance of rich fruit—blackberries, ripe plum, and a touch of spice—interwoven with the characteristic savory note of olive tapenade. The tannins are firm yet fine, providing structure, while a refreshing acidity keeps the wine lively. The finish is long and nuanced, with a gentle herbal lift and a touch of minerality.

ABOUT THIS WINE

The grapes for this Xinomavro were hand-harvested from the steep, terraced vineyards of Naoussa in late September. The wine underwent fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruit flavors and bright acidity. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (30% new, 70% older oak) to integrate the tannins and add complexity. Bottled in early 2022, the wine has been resting in bottle for an additional year before release in 2023.
