The “Cannubi” vineyard, perched on a ridge above the town of Barolo, is one of the appellation’s most revered sites, known for its exceptional balance of power and elegance. Giacomo Fenocchio’s 2020 expression is crafted from old vines rooted in the vineyard’s distinctive mix of sand and clay, which imparts aromatic lift and fine-grained structure. Vinified traditionally, with a 40-day maceration on skins and aged for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks, the wine remains unhurried and unforced, allowing Nebbiolo’s purity to shine. The 2020 vintage is a poised and age-worthy example, capturing the vineyard’s signature red fruit, florals, and mineral drive. Best served with braised meats, aged cheeses, or porcini-laced risotto.

Giacomo Fenocchio is one of Barolo’s staunch traditionalists, producing wines of authenticity and terroir transparency since 1864. Under the guidance of Claudio Fenocchio, the estate continues to follow time-honored methods: long macerations, spontaneous fermentations, and aging in large neutral botti. With vineyards in some of Barolo’s most prestigious crus—including Bussia, Villero, and Cannubi—the estate focuses on single-vineyard expressions that reflect the nuance of place. Fenocchio farms organically and avoids chemical intervention, allowing the vintage and vineyard to guide the winemaking. His wines, especially from Cannubi, are known for their aromatic clarity, aging potential, and understated power.
