2020 Guigal Côte-Rôtie "La Turque", Rhône Valley, France

A deep ruby red wine with dark, dense reflections, featuring intensely aromatic notes of black pepper, violets, blackberries, morello cherry, crushed stone, graphite, licorice, mocha, and smoky bacon fat. Full-bodied, dense, and concentrated with a supple attack, fine powdery tannins, vibrant acidity, and a seamless balance of toasty oak, dark fruit, and savory iron/tapenade undertones. This wine bridges the muscular, mineral power of the Côte Brune with the floral subtlety and elegance of the Côte Blonde.

ABOUT THE WINE

The 2020 La Turque is one of E. Guigal’s celebrated single-vineyard Côte-Rôties, made from 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier grown on a roughly one-hectare site on the Côte Brune. Iron-rich clay, siliceous limestone and schist shape this distinctive terroir. The varieties are co-fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with approximately four weeks of maceration, before the wine matures for around 40 months in new French oak barrels.

Powerful yet finely detailed, the 2020 vintage offers concentrated black fruit, cassis, smoked meat, graphite and cedar, supported by fresh acidity and firm, polished tannins. This is a deep, structured Côte-Rôtie built for the cellar and a natural match for richly flavored beef, lamb and game.
