ABOUT THIS WINE
The CMS has traditionally been their value-cuvee, named for the blend: Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Syrah, and 2% Merlot. The grapes were sourced from Sagemoor, Wooded Island and Bacchus vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA and Hedges Estate, Jolet, Bel’ Villa, and Les Gosses vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA. The must was pumped over for 8 days and pressed to tank, where it underwent malo-lactic fermentation. The Columbia Valley portion of this wine was fermented to dryness on 100 % American Oak and aged on 100% French oak. It was 100% barrel aged for 5 months in 100% neutral oak. The Red Mountain AVA Wines were 100% barrel aged in 100% neutral American and French oak for 19 months.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
It was Tom Hedges’ contact in the produce export market that “planted the seeds” for Hedges Cellars. Tom was asked to produce a Washington State table wine for sale in Sweden. A winery was born. The first two vintages (1987 and 1988) of Hedges Cellars Cabernet-Merlot were sold exclusively in Sweden. Today, four different wines including the 1997 vintage of Cabernet-Merlot are sold in 45 states and 15 foreign countries. Hedges Cellars is being hailed as one of the country’s “Great Red Meritage Producers.” Today, Tom’s daughter, Sarah Hedges Goedhart, has taken over winemaking duties, farming both organically and biodynamically.
