2020 J. Bookwalter "Conflict", Columbia Valley, Washington State, USA
A bold, polished blend that thrives on tension and balance, the 2020 “Conflict” from J. Bookwalter is a powerful yet poised red that speaks to the strength of Washington State terroir. Ripe blackberry, cassis, and dark plum lead the aromatic charge, followed by layers of espresso, graphite, and baking spice. Full-bodied and structured, its sleek tannins and energetic acidity drive a long, cocoa-tinged finish with savory undertones and finesse.

ABOUT THE WINE
The 2020 "Conflict" is part of J. Bookwalter’s flagship "Readers" series, crafted to reflect depth, structure, and age-worthiness. This vintage is a Bordeaux-style blend, led predominantly by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller percentages of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Grapes were sourced from select sites within the Columbia Valley AVA, where high-desert conditions, diurnal shifts, and diverse soils contribute to concentrated fruit and balanced ripeness.
The wine was fermented in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity and then aged in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 18–22 months. Aromas of black cherry, violet, mocha, and toasted cedar evolve in the glass, while the palate is expansive yet focused, showing layered dark fruit, silky tannins, and a touch of minerality. Decanting is recommended for near-term enjoyment, though the wine will develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years. Ideal pairings include chargrilled ribeye, lamb stew, wild mushroom risotto, or aged Gouda.
