2020 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault, Burgundy, France
Very precise, intense flavors, some greengage fruit. A classic Fichet-syled wine.
ABOUT THIS WINE
Ripe and very fresh aromas include those of hazelnut, pear, anise and citrus zest. This is in a leaner, classically Fichet style. Very precise, intense flavors. Sourced from four sites. "Les Narvaux" facing south-east on stony soils, located on a basement of hard rocks, vines planted in 1998. This parcel produces elegant and mineral wines. "Les Clous", located on shallow marls (30-40 cm) produces fine, elegant and mineral wines. "Le Limozin", from vines planted in 1968, has pretty gently sloping, moderately deep land that produces long and rich wines. "Les Criots" and "Les Crotots" are on very rich soil, and produce generous, slightly buttery and fat wines. Those vineyards date from 1936.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Fichet produces some of the Cote de Beane’s most electric whites and is especially renowned for his laser-focused Meursault lieux-dits. The estate employs fastidious viticulture, a long, gentle élevage, and minimal new wood, in crafting his extraordinary line-up. Fichet’s methods reflect his philosophy: he is famously meticulous and abhors taking short cuts. His low yields, the foremost key to quality, are achieved through severe winter pruning rather than by green harvesting. And he believes his wines’ expressiveness is enhanced through a patient eighteen- month élevage, with little new oak employed, and by avoiding aggressive lees stirring.
