2020 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault, Burgundy, France

A completely different aromatic profile presents its aromas of smoky hazelnut, white peach and lemon rind. The delicious medium-bodied flavors possess both very fine density and volume while exhibiting a subtle minerality on the clean, focused and bone-dry finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages and is recommended.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Pierre-Yves Colin described the 2020 growing season as "one where the hot and exceptionally dry conditions didn't really allow for much disease pressure. I picked from the 20th of August to the 1st of September and happily the fruit was exceptionally clean. Ripeness levels were very good as everything except the Bâtard came in between 12.5 and 13.5% potential alcohols while the Bâtard came in at 13.7%. Yields were basically very good though variable as they ranged from 35 to 55 hl/ha. The fermentations unfolded with no issues though with the exception of the entry level wines, I am doing a slightly longer élevage than I usually do. As to the wines, they are at a minimum very good and some of them are excellent. I find them to be complete wines that have everything that they need to age gracefully over at least the mid-term, and some may reward even longer keeping." Colin noted that most wines will be fined but not filtered. For those wines already in bottle, Colin noted that they were put there in December 2021 while the rest will be bottled between April and July 2022. He is continuing to cap each bottle with wax as an aid in fighting potential premature oxidation issues.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Pierre-Yves Colin is the eldest son of Marc Colin. After working as the winemaker at his father’s domaine from 1994 to 2005, he established his own domaine alongside his wife Caroline Morey from vineyards they inherited from their historic families. Since that time, he has rapidly become an icon in the Cote de Beaune and is now considered one of Burgundy’s best producers. His fastidious farming, incredible attention to detail, use of larger demi-muid barrels, and long elevage, makes each one of his bottlings a clear expression of its terroir and a study in mineral-driven Chardonnay. Now with his sons Mathis and Clément joining the family domaine, the wines continue to set the standard for what is possible in this famed region. This is not only one of the top domaines in Chassagne, it is also one of the finest domaines in the world.
