ABOUT THIS WINE
“Colonnello” comes from the Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, a historic site known for producing Barolo with considerable depth, structure, and longevity. Aldo Conterno’s parcels sit on calcareous-clay soils at elevation, contributing both concentration and the mineral freshness that keeps the wine energetic. The 2020 vintage shows a particularly appealing balance of ripe fruit and classical Nebbiolo structure: red and black cherries mingle with rose, violet, licorice, anise, and subtle earthy tones.
Colonnello follows the traditional Piedmontese model of extended maceration and maturation in large oak, allowing the wine’s fruit, tannin, and site character to integrate gradually. The result is substantial without being heavy, with the freshness and tannic architecture expected from a serious Barolo. Though approachable with decanting, it has the structure to develop beautifully over many years.

Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of the great names of modern Barolo, established by Aldo Conterno after his return to Piedmont in the 1960s. The estate is based in Bussia, Monforte d’Alba, giving the family an intimate connection to one of the Langhe’s most important vineyard areas.
