2020 René Rostaing Côte-Rôtie "Côte Blonde", Rhone Valley, France
Saturated ruby. Potent, finely detailed aromas of red and dark fruit liqueur, smoked meat, potpourri and exotic spices, along with a vibrant mineral top note. Sappy, alluringly sweet and penetrating, offering intense cherry, boysenberry, allspice and star anise flavors and a potent suggestion of candied lavender. Silky, finely wrought tannins build steadily through an exceptionally long, penetrating finish that echoes the floral and mineral notes
ABOUT THIS WINE
The Rostaing mystique grows further with the prized single-vineyard wines, La Landonne and Côte Blonde. These are extraordinary expressions of two very different terroirs. Landonne is dark and powerful, while Côte Blonde is lithe and explosive; yet both are imbued with the finesse for which Rostaing is famed.
These grapes come from 2 parcels of 40+ year-old vines. 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier to brighten and lift the wine. Maceration can vary from 7-20 days. Aged in a mix of 225 and 600 liter barrels. (about 7% new)
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
René Rostaing founded this estate in 1971 and absorbed top sites, plus invaluable wisdom, from earlier giants like uncle, Marius Gentaz, and father-in-law, Albert Dervieux.
The domaine today commands perhaps the finest selection of Côte Rôtie vineyards in private hands; with prime holdings in La Landonne, Côte Blonde, La Viaillière, Côte Brune and more.
Today’s wines are models of classic balance and perfume; crafted with deep respect for traditional techniques like long macerations, inclusion of stems, and limited usage of new wood.
