2020 Thibault Liger-Belair Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, Burgundy, France
There is excellent volume and freshness to the intense and tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors that brim with minerality on the sappy and seductively textured finale that offers fine length on the moderately austere bitter citrus-inflected finale. This will certainly age over the medium-term but it’s not so tightly coiled that it couldn’t be enjoyed young.
ABOUT THIS WINE
This wine has a delicate and seductive character. Its acidic tension allows it to flourish fully after a few years in the cellar. The vineyard is located on a 0.15-hectare plot is located in the commune of Aloxe-Corton on the climat of Les Languettes, a steep (25%) south-southeast-facing slope on the highest part of the Corton hill. This marl soil is rich in clay. The limestone alternates with the marl beneath a shallow layer of rendzina. Classic Corton-Charlemagne is considered to be amongst the finest of Burgundy's whites, and is famous for its combination of fruit flavors (figs and baked pears) and mineral character (flint).
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
All the vines of the Domaine have been in the family since the 18th century. The Companies C.Marey and Comte Liger-Belair were created in 1720 in Nuits-Saint-Georges and listed in the Lyon Stock Exchange in 1923. They were among the most important wine growing and trading houses in Burgundy. Confident in the quality of its harvests and in the one of its wines, the family has worked hard to enhance the Domaine in acquiring the best Cuvées and in taking care of their distribution both in France and abroad.
