ABOUT THE WINE

“Monvigliero” stands apart in the Barolo landscape—its wines are prized for their aromatic lift, precision, and finesse over brute power. The 2020 vintage from Vietti beautifully channels this character, sourced from the high-altitude, south-facing slopes of Verduno with light, sandy soils that encourage aromatic complexity and a fine-boned structure.

100% Nebbiolo is hand-harvested, then partially fermented with whole clusters—a rare technique in Barolo—bringing an added layer of floral nuance and spice. Fermentation occurs in open-top tanks with gentle extraction, followed by a long maceration and aging in large oak casks for over two years.

The nose is lifted and complex: crushed raspberry, violet, dried herbs, and delicate white pepper. The palate is pure and transparent, showing red currant, blood orange, tea leaf, and saline minerality, framed by silky tannins and taut acidity. 2020 was a warm vintage, but Monvigliero's cool exposure preserved freshness, giving the wine its signature balance and levity.

Pair with mushroom risotto, herb-roasted quail, or aged alpine cheeses to highlight its nuance and aromatic lift.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Vietti, based in Castiglione Falletto, is a cornerstone of Barolo’s modern era—famed for its single-vineyard expressions and dedication to both innovation and tradition. Since the 1960s, Vietti has helped define the identity of Barolo crus, bottling “Monvigliero” as a standalone wine to showcase Verduno’s unique voice: subtle, floral, and cerebral.

Farming is carried out sustainably with deep respect for biodiversity, soil health, and terroir expression. In the cellar, the approach is restrained—minimal intervention, native yeasts, long macerations, and aging in neutral oak allow the vineyard to speak. Vietti’s Monvigliero is not just a wine but a philosophical statement—an ode to Nebbiolo’s elegance and the quiet power of precision.
