2021 Brown Estate Zinfandel, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, California, USA
Bold yet impeccably balanced, the 2021 Brown Estate Zinfandel from Howell Mountain offers a high-altitude expression of the varietal—vibrant, concentrated, and deeply perfumed. Ripe blackberries, wild blueberries, and dark cherries unfold with nuances of black tea, warm spice, and dried herbs. A firm tannic backbone is met by fresh acidity, giving the wine a lifted, juicy texture. The finish is long and structured, with notes of cocoa nib and forest floor.

ABOUT THE WINE
Grown on the rugged slopes of Howell Mountain, the 2021 vintage showcases Zinfandel at its most focused and age-worthy. The elevated vineyard site, with its volcanic soils and cooler temperatures, yields smaller berries with thick skins—contributing to the wine’s intense aromatics, deep color, and finely-knit tannins. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small lots, followed by aging in a mix of French and American oak barrels (a portion new) for 12–14 months to enhance structure without overwhelming the fruit.
The nose is lifted with ripe boysenberry, sagebrush, and sweet tobacco, while the palate balances dark fruit richness with earthy undertones and a vein of mountain minerality. It’s a Zinfandel that over-delivers on elegance and depth. Ideal alongside grilled lamb, wood-fired pizza with fennel sausage, or aged cheddar.
