2021 Chappellet "Pritchard Hill" Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California, USA

Majestic and profoundly structured, the 2021 “Pritchard Hill” Cabernet Sauvignon is the pinnacle of Chappellet’s winemaking—a powerful, age-worthy expression of one of Napa Valley’s most coveted vineyard sites. It opens with deep aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, lavender, and dark chocolate, underscored by graphite and sweet tobacco. Dense and commanding on the palate, it reveals layers of ripe black fruit, crushed stone, and savory spice, supported by firm yet fine-grained tannins and a finish that goes on for minutes.

ABOUT THIS WINE

The “Pritchard Hill” Cabernet Sauvignon is Chappellet’s flagship bottling, made entirely from estate-grown fruit sourced from the rugged, volcanic slopes of their legendary vineyard site. At elevations reaching up to 1,800 feet, these mountain vines experience intense sun exposure, cool nights, and poor, rocky soils—conditions that yield grapes of exceptional concentration, freshness, and structure.

The 2021 vintage was marked by a dry growing season with moderate temperatures, allowing for a slow, even ripening. The wine is composed predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, with small portions of Petit Verdot and Malbec to enhance complexity and depth. It is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for nearly two years in 100% new French oak barrels, contributing polished tannins, spice, and seamless integration.

This wine is built for long-term aging, capable of evolving for 20–30 years. It’s best enjoyed alongside dishes of equal depth and richness: dry-aged ribeye, venison with blackberry jus, porcini risotto, or aged blue cheese. Decanting is recommended for near-term enjoyment.
