2021 Château de Rouanne, Vinsobres, Rhone Valley, France
A bold yet refined expression of Vinsobres, the 2021 Château de Rouanne captures the rugged elegance of the Northern Rhône with brooding dark fruit, wild herbs, and a stony mineral core. Vibrant black cherry, blackberry compote, and cracked pepper unfold over a framework of firm tannins, brisk acidity, and a long, savory finish touched by garrigue and graphite. It’s a wine of power, freshness, and untamed beauty.

ABOUT THE WINE
Crafted from 100% estate-grown grapes in the historic cru of Vinsobres—where the Rhône’s northern freshness meets the southern sun—this cuvée is predominantly Syrah with Grenache and Mourvèdre interwoven, grown on limestone-rich soils with ancient alluvial deposits. The 2021 vintage offered a cooler, more restrained profile, emphasizing energy over opulence. Whole-cluster fermentation and native yeasts preserve the wine’s aromatic purity and wild character, while aging in large oak casks enhances texture without masking terroir. The result is a wine layered with violet, black olive, and smoked meat notes, balanced by a stony backbone and lifted, spicy finish. Best paired with herb-crusted lamb, grilled eggplant, or aged sheep’s cheese.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Château de Rouanne is an ancient estate with viticultural roots dating back to Roman times, located in the Vinsobres appellation—the northernmost cru of the Southern Rhône. Acquired by Louis Barruol of the iconic Château de Saint Cosme in 2019, the estate has undergone a meticulous renaissance. Barruol, known for his deep respect for terroir and organic farming, immediately converted the vineyards to organic agriculture and began crafting wines that reflect both the wild landscape and the estate’s profound historical legacy. Rouanne’s wines stand out for their purity, tension, and honest expression of site—powerful yet nuanced, always guided by nature and tradition.
