ABOUT THE WINE
The 2021 One Sixteen draws Chardonnay from a collection of cool Russian River Valley sites, including Ritchie, Heintz, Keefer Ranch and Zio Tony Ranch. Pacific fog travels inland along the river, moderating temperatures and allowing the fruit to ripen while retaining freshness.
Whole clusters were pressed, and the individual lots underwent native alcoholic and malolactic fermentations. Fermentation and maturation used barrels, foudre and wood casks, with a later stainless-steel rest for part of the wine. The result combines mango, honeyed citrus and brioche aromas with a refined texture and lively acidity. Serve with roast chicken, butter-poached seafood or mushroom pasta.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Dan Kosta and Michael Browne founded Kosta Browne in 1997 after working together in a Sonoma County restaurant. They pooled their tips to purchase their first grapes, with Michael building grower relationships and Dan helping bring the wines to market; Chris Costello later became a third partner.
The winery developed a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from distinctive cool-climate sites. Julien Howsepian became winemaker in 2019, continuing an approach centered on precise vineyard selection and careful cellar work. The appellation wines draw together several sites to express the character of each growing region.
