ABOUT THE WINE

The “Ferguson Vineyard” bottling is L’Ecole No 41’s flagship expression of their estate site in the SeVein project at the southern edge of the Walla Walla Valley AVA, near the Oregon border. Perched at 1,350 feet in elevation, the vineyard is planted in fractured basalt soils that lend the wine its signature mineral tension. The 2021 vintage saw a long, dry growing season with excellent ripening conditions, producing wines of concentration and lift. A blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, the wine is fermented in small lots with native yeasts, then aged 22 months in 40% new French oak. It shows aromas of blackberry, crushed herbs, and pencil lead, with a palate marked by dense dark fruit, savory spice, and tightly woven tannins. Its balance of ripeness and structure makes it both age-worthy and compelling in youth with decanting. Pair with grilled ribeye, rosemary lamb chops, or earthy dishes like mushroom risotto or lentil stew.
