ABOUT THE WINE
“Xisto Ilimitado,” meaning “Unlimited Schist,” reflects both the schist-dominated soils of the Douro Valley and Luis Seabra’s philosophy of crafting transparent, terroir-focused wines. Produced from traditional field blends of indigenous Portuguese grape varieties sourced from higher-elevation vineyards, the wine emphasizes freshness, elegance, and site expression over power or extraction.
The 2021 vintage benefited from balanced growing conditions that preserved acidity and aromatic precision while allowing for slow, even ripening. Fermentation with native yeasts and gentle extraction preserve purity and texture, while aging in neutral vessels minimizes oak influence and highlights the wine’s mineral structure and nuanced fruit character.
On the palate, layers of plum, blackberry, red currant, and black tea intertwine with notes of graphite, spice, and wild herbs. Fresh acidity and polished tannins give the wine lift and tension, resulting in a refined, food-friendly expression of Douro red wine.
An excellent pairing for grilled lamb, roasted pork, charcuterie, mushroom dishes, hearty vegetables, and aged cheeses.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Luis Seabra Vinhos was founded by acclaimed winemaker Luís Seabra, a leading figure in Portugal’s contemporary wine movement known for championing terroir-driven, low-intervention wines. After working with several influential Portuguese estates, Seabra established his own project to focus on old vineyards, indigenous varieties, and authentic regional expression.
Working primarily in the Douro and Vinho Verde regions, the winery sources fruit from carefully farmed, high-altitude sites with schist and granite soils that contribute freshness, complexity, and minerality. In both vineyard and cellar, the philosophy centers on minimal manipulation, native fermentations, restrained oak usage, and transparency of place.
Luis Seabra’s wines are widely celebrated for redefining traditional perceptions of the Douro, offering wines of precision, balance, and elegance that highlight the region’s remarkable diversity and aging potential.
