ABOUT THIS WINE

Siepi, owned by Mazzei family since 1435, has always been a model farm, still managed today with the same kind of respect. A unique location, a special microclimate, the foresight in the early 1980s to plant Merlot as the ideal grape to complement Sangiovese in a very particular "terroir" produce a wine which is perfectly balanced between elegance, power and complexity.

50% Sangiovese, 50% Merlot. The wine is aged for 18 months in small French oak barrels (70% new).

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Mazzei Winery, established in 1435, is a historic family-owned winery located in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. The Mazzei family has been dedicated to winemaking for over six centuries, with a commitment to producing exceptional wines that reflect the rich heritage of the Chianti Classico region.

The Mazzei family's winemaking legacy dates back to Ser Lapo Mazzei, who authored the first known document to use the "Chianti" denomination in 1398. In 1435, his granddaughter, Madonna Smeralda Mazzei, married Piero di Agnolo da Fonterutoli, integrating the Fonterutoli estate into the family's holdings. Since then, the Mazzei family has been producing wine at Castello di Fonterutoli, which remains the beating heart of the company.

Mazzei Winery combines tradition with innovation, focusing on the research and enhancement of Chianti Classico wines. The estate spans 650 hectares, with 110 hectares dedicated to vineyards organized into seven zones, each with unique microclimates and soils. This diversity allows for the cultivation of various grape varieties, including Sangiovese, Malvasia, Colorino, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are harvested by hand from 114 separate parcels, ensuring meticulous attention to each variety's characteristics.
