2021 Paolo Scavino Barolo "Bussia Vigna Fantini", Piedmont, Italy
A commanding yet graceful Barolo from the renowned Bussia cru, Vigna Fantini balances power and elegance with seamless finesse. It opens with dark-toned aromatics—black cherry, plum skin, licorice, and violet—layered over earthy undertones of iron, tobacco leaf, and truffle. The palate is deep and structured, with broad tannins, well-integrated acidity, and a long, savory finish marked by graphite and spice. A quintessential expression of Monforte d’Alba’s strength, rendered with Scavino’s trademark precision and polish.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Sourced from the Vigna Fantini parcel within the legendary Bussia cru of Monforte d’Alba, this wine reflects the muscular elegance typical of the site’s compact marl and sand-rich soils. At 350 meters elevation with optimal southern exposure, the vineyard yields fruit of depth, complexity, and aging potential. The 2021 vintage showcases a balance of freshness and structure, the result of a long growing season with moderate temperatures.
Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with gentle pumpovers to preserve aromatics and avoid over-extraction, followed by aging in a mix of large neutral oak and lightly toasted French barrique. The wine offers a rich aromatic profile of black fruits, dried herbs, leather, and crushed rock. On the palate, it’s firmly built yet finely textured, with energetic acidity supporting a long, mineral-laced finish.
Ideal pairings include wild boar ragù, grilled lamb with rosemary, or aged alpine cheeses like Castelmagno or Testun.
