2022 Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses", Burgundy, France
Les Amoureuses brings together raspberry, strawberry, rose and violet aromas with a concentrated, silky palate. Its substantial but fine-textured tannins carry the fruit into a persistent finish, expressing the perfume and depth associated with this Chambolle-Musigny premier cru.
ABOUT THE WINE
Les Amoureuses is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most celebrated premier cru vineyards, in the Côte de Nuits between Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeot. Albert Bichot’s bottling is entirely Pinot Noir, grown on brown limestone soils mixed with scree and silt. Its character combines the appellation’s floral delicacy with the concentration and structure of a serious premier cru.
The house harvests by hand and uses temperature-controlled, conical oak vats for fermentation. Its documented approach to the cuvée includes 18–21 days of fermentation and 16–17 months in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood. This gives the wine time to develop a supple texture while retaining a clear tannic framework.
Raspberry and strawberry aromas mingle with rose and violet. On the palate, the fruit is rich and concentrated, supported by fine, silky tannins and integrated oak; the finish is persistent and detailed. Roasted poultry, veal with morels, or delicately flavored cheeses suit its balance of perfume and depth.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Bernard Bichot founded the family wine house in Monthélie in 1831. His son Hippolyte began acquiring vineyards in Volnay, and the first Albert Bichot expanded the business before establishing it permanently in Beaune in 1912. Albéric Bichot, the sixth generation, has led the house since 1996.
The family combines its négociant heritage with a network of six domaines across Burgundy. Dedicated cellar teams work in the different regions, allowing vinification to remain close to the vineyards. Under Albéric, greater control over grape sourcing and the conversion of Côte d’Or estate vineyards to organic farming have been central developments. The wider philosophy emphasizes sound fruit, restrained intervention and preserving the distinctions between Burgundy’s individual sites.
