ABOUT THE WINE
The 2022 “Zélée” is 100% Syrah sourced from steep, granitic slopes in the northern reaches of Saint-Joseph, where cooler exposures and rocky soils deliver intensity with lift. Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, the wine sees partial whole-cluster fermentation, enhancing aromatic complexity and structure. Aging occurs in mostly neutral oak to preserve purity of fruit and terroir expression.
On the nose, expect violet, cracked black pepper, smoked herbs, and black cherry. The palate is sleek and precise, with flavors of blackberry, black olive, and graphite, framed by fine tannins and bright acidity. It’s a wine that speaks clearly of its place—fresh, tension-driven Syrah with depth and drinkability.
A natural partner to grilled lamb, duck with lentils, or wild mushroom dishes, “Zélée” is also suited to cellaring for added complexity over 5–8 years.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Aurélien Chatagnier is among the most exciting young vignerons in the northern Rhône. After working with the legendary François Villard, he established his own domaine in 2002 at the age of 20, steadily building a reputation for purity, precision, and authenticity in his wines. Today, he farms organically across small parcels in Saint-Joseph, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and surrounding appellations.
Chatagnier’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention—hand harvesting, native fermentations, restrained use of oak, and a focus on site transparency. His wines are known for their elegance and vibrancy, offering a modern, detail-driven interpretation of Rhône terroir that remains deeply respectful of tradition.
