ABOUT THE WINE

The 2024 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru "La Pièce Sous Le Bois" is sourced from a prized Premier Cru vineyard situated on the cool upper slopes above Meursault, bordering Puligny-Montrachet. The site's shallow limestone soils and higher elevation produce naturally low yields, resulting in a Chardonnay renowned for its tension, precision, and longevity.

The wine opens with lifted aromas of lemon zest, white peach, pear, acacia blossom, and citrus oil, complemented by subtle notes of crushed chalk, toasted almond, fresh brioche, and flint. The palate is concentrated yet remarkably refined, offering layers of ripe orchard fruit balanced by vivid acidity and a pronounced saline minerality. Lees aging lends texture and depth, while the finish is exceptionally long, focused, and effortlessly elegant.

Benjamin Leroux harvests the fruit by hand and employs gentle whole-cluster pressing followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is matured in French oak barrels, using only a restrained proportion of new oak to preserve the vineyard's mineral purity. Minimal intervention throughout élevage ensures that the unique identity of this high-altitude Premier Cru site remains at the forefront.

Although already expressive, this wine possesses the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over the next 10–15 years, developing greater complexity while maintaining its hallmark freshness.

Food Pairing: Superb with butter-poached lobster, roasted turbot, Dover sole, scallops, poultry with morel cream sauce, veal, aged Comté, or dishes featuring white truffle.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Benjamin Leroux is widely regarded as one of Burgundy's finest contemporary winemakers. After serving as régisseur at Comte Armand, he established his own domaine and négociant house in 2007, earning acclaim for wines that combine purity, finesse, and remarkable transparency of terroir.

Working alongside growers who share his commitment to sustainable viticulture, Leroux emphasizes meticulous vineyard management, low yields, and careful fruit selection. In the cellar, native yeast fermentations, gentle extraction, minimal intervention, and restrained oak maturation preserve freshness and site expression rather than imposing a winemaking signature.

His wines are celebrated for their balance, elegance, and precision, consistently ranking among the most sought-after examples of modern Burgundy. The Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru "La Pièce Sous Le Bois" is an outstanding expression of his philosophy, showcasing the remarkable tension, minerality, and aging potential that distinguish the finest Premier Cru vineyards of Meursault.
