ABOUT THIS WINE
La Rosa is born from a historic blend of Xarel·lo and Sumoll, two varieties deeply rooted in the Penedès.A warm and humid year brought Can Sumoi 714 mm of rainfall. The water restored life to the fields, and the vines grew with strength and balance. Harvest began on September 16th, with healthy vineyards full of promise. A dry winter gave way to a very rainy spring, which encouraged the growth of the new Sumoll vines and consolidated the replantings. The summer, mild and with some rain before harvest, allowed for slow and balanced ripening. Patience at harvest time rewarded winemakers with wines of good maturity, weight on the palate, and a clean, vibrant expression of Montmell.
This year they harvested the first Sumoll grapes, five years after planting the first vines. Despite their youth, they already show great potential and symbolize the return to the origin of a variety that gives its name to the estate — one that hadn’t been cultivated here for more than half a century.
Vineyards for this wine are located on high-altitude/mountain vineyards in the Montmell mountains. The soils here are poorly developed calcerous and stony soils. The vineyards are farmed organically, working to recover biodiversity and improve forest ecosystem. Can Sumoi makes minimal intervention wines, free from oenological additives during vinification – no more than 30 mg/l of sulphites in total. Grapes were pressed at low pressure, fermented utilizing native yeasts in stainless steel. Finally, the wine was aged in concrete.
