ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from several high-elevation parcels on the schist-rich slopes of Côte-Rôtie’s Côte Brune and Côte Blonde sectors, this wine reflects the appellation’s legendary capacity for finesse and intensity. The 2022 vintage—marked by moderate warmth and balanced ripening—allowed for full phenolic development without over-extraction. 100% Syrah is vinified with whole clusters and native yeasts, then aged in a mix of used and new French oak barrels. The resulting wine is fragrant and layered, with aromas of graphite, charcuterie, incense, and dark berry fruit. On the palate, it is simultaneously deep and weightless, with a coiled structure that promises graceful evolution over time. ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Château de Saint-Cosme is one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected historic estates, family-owned since 1490 and located in Gigondas. Under the stewardship of Louis Barruol, the estate has grown beyond its southern Rhône roots to produce limited, site-driven wines from top northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage. Barruol works closely with trusted growers who farm steep, old-vine parcels, often organically, and insists on traditional methods such as whole-cluster fermentation, natural yeasts, and minimal new oak to preserve purity and terroir expression.
