About This Wine
This wine comes from the village of Clessé on land located in the heart of the appellation. The vines have an average age of 65 years and are planted on a south-east slope called "Il Monte". The altitude and good drainage of this Monte preserve the freshness of the grapes. The presses are located across 15 hectares of The Mount and the grapes are pressed without transport or delay at the harvest site. This wine is mostly vinified in stainless steel tanks and 20% of the older vines are fermented and aged in 450 or 600 liter oak barrels. Bottling takes place at the end of spring.
About This Producer
It has been said that in partnership, the result is harmony. Marion Meurgey, wife of Pierre Meurgey, and one half of the wine making team behind Meurgey Croses and Pierre Meurgey Through a lifetime of building relationships in the vineyards of Burgundy, the Meurgey duo has proven this a steadfast rule. The two are omnipresent in the vineyards from pruning to bud- break to harvest, offering their expertise in organic and biodynamic agriculture while working tirelessly with vineyard managers to oversee the plots destined to become their signature Cote d'Or and Mâconnais wines.
Master of Wine Clive Coates once wrote that a feature of Meurgey wines is the total absence of a "Meurgey" Signature. In a region where 'terroir' is paramount, this may be one of the highest compliments one can receive and a testament to the value of preserving a sense of place as opposed to a homogenized, 'cookie-cutter' winemaking style. Their purist philosophy has evolved even further at Meurgey-Croses with the sovereign belief that the Maconnais and its individually unique regions will be home to an entirely new and soulful renaissance of White Burgundy production.
