ABOUT THE WINE
The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is sourced from a tiny parcel on the famed Hill of Corton, where steep, east- and southwest-facing slopes of marl and limestone create one of the world's greatest terroirs for Chardonnay. The vineyard's shallow, stony soils produce naturally low yields, resulting in wines of exceptional intensity, structure, and mineral complexity.
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, the grapes are harvested by hand and gently whole-cluster pressed before fermenting with indigenous yeasts. True to Domaine Simon Bize's philosophy, vinification is deliberately restrained, allowing the Grand Cru site to speak with clarity and precision. The wine is matured in French oak barrels, with a carefully judged proportion of new oak, followed by extended lees aging to enhance texture while preserving freshness and site expression.
The 2022 vintage reveals layers of citrus blossom, ripe orchard fruit, white peach, lemon curd, toasted almond, wet stone, and delicate smoky nuances. The palate is both rich and taut, seamlessly combining generous fruit with laser-like acidity and a pronounced saline minerality that drives an exceptionally long finish. While captivating in its youth, this Grand Cru is built to evolve beautifully over 15–25 years, gaining greater depth, complexity, and aromatic nuance with age.
An exceptional companion to refined cuisine, Corton-Charlemagne pairs beautifully with butter-poached lobster, Dover sole, turbot, roasted poultry with morel cream sauce, veal, rich mushroom dishes, or aged Comté and Beaufort cheeses.
