2022 Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge, Burgundy, France

A luminous expression of Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir, the 2022 Rully Rouge from Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is both graceful and intensely expressive. Bright red fruits—wild strawberry, redcurrant, and cherry skin—are framed by violet, crushed herbs, and a gentle mineral undertone. The palate is lithe and precise, with silken tannins, lively acidity, and a persistent, red-fruited finish that hums with energy and finesse.

ABOUT THE WINE

Crafted entirely from estate-grown Pinot Noir in the commune of Rully, this wine reflects Vincent Dureuil-Janthial’s deep dedication to elevating the terroirs of the Côte Chalonnaise. The vines are farmed organically (certified) on predominantly limestone-clay soils with a high proportion of stony marl, bringing freshness and structure to the wine. The 2022 vintage offered ideal conditions—moderate heat, timely rains, and healthy yields—resulting in a wine of clarity, concentration, and poise.

Vinification is traditional and minimal: grapes are hand-harvested, 100% destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Gentle extraction methods—minimal punch-downs and pump-overs—preserve the delicate nature of the fruit. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (approximately 20% new) for about 12 months before bottling without fining.

Aromatically vibrant and pure, the wine opens with floral lift and red berry freshness, giving way to savory undertones of forest floor and spice. The mouthfeel is polished and balanced, revealing both the precision of Dureuil-Janthial’s craftsmanship and the character of the Rully terroir.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is widely regarded as one of the most talented and meticulous winemakers in Burgundy, and a defining figure in the renaissance of Rully. His family has deep roots in the village, with winemaking traditions dating back to the 13th century. Since taking over the domaine in the early 1990s, Vincent has transformed it into one of the most respected names in the Côte Chalonnaise.

The estate farms organically across over 20 hectares of vines in Rully, Mercurey, and Puligny-Montrachet, with an uncompromising focus on soil health, low yields, and site expression. Every step of the process—from hand-harvesting to small-lot vinification—is carried out with precision and restraint, aiming to translate vineyard character with utmost clarity. While best known for his whites, Vincent’s reds—like this Rully Rouge—are gaining acclaim for their purity, finesse, and age-worthy structure.
