ABOUT THE WINE

Produced from 100% Chardonnay in the tiny Clos des Maladries vineyard in Avize, one of the Côte des Blancs’ prestigious Grand Cru villages, this is an exceptionally rare single-parcel Champagne. The south-facing clos is planted on chalk soils and is worked with horses, allowing the vines to express the site’s distinctive mineral character. The 2022 vintage brings added richness and ripeness while retaining the tension and freshness characteristic of Avize. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, with approximately 30% of the wine vinified in wood and the remainder in stainless steel. The wine is bottled without filtration or fining, preserving its purity and terroir-driven character.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Étienne Calsac represents a new generation of grower Champagne producers focused on expressing individual terroirs with precision and minimal intervention. Calsac established his domaine in 2010 after gaining experience in Champagne and abroad, and has developed a reputation for beautifully focused, terroir-driven wines. His approach emphasizes careful vineyard work, respect for the soil, spontaneous fermentation, and separate vinification of individual parcels. “Clos des Maladries” is particularly emblematic of his philosophy: a tiny, historic Grand Cru parcel in Avize that Calsac farms organically and treats as a true expression of place. The domaine’s wines have earned recognition for their precision, maturity, and distinctive sense of terroir.
