2022 Foradori "Granato" Teroldego, Dolomiti IGT, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Deep, resonant, and elegantly composed, the 2022 Granato delivers a powerful yet refined expression of Teroldego rooted in the ancient gravel soils of Campo Rotaliano. Ripe black cherry, wild plum, crushed herbs, and graphite are layered with notes of dried flowers and spice. Silky yet structured tannins frame a wine that is both voluminous and vibrant, finishing long with stony mineral tension and savory depth.

ABOUT THE WINE
The Granato—meaning “garnet” and evoking both the pomegranate and the stone—is Foradori’s grand cru Teroldego, sourced from old pergola-trained vines planted in the 1930s–1950s on the stony, alluvial soils of Campo Rotaliano. Farmed biodynamically since the early 2000s, the fruit is harvested by hand, partially destemmed (typically 50–60% whole cluster), and fermented spontaneously in large open wooden vats (tini), with a gentle submerged cap maceration lasting up to three weeks.
The wine is then aged in large neutral oak botti for approximately 15 months, followed by further aging in bottle before release. The 2022 vintage shows a fresh, lifted character within its powerful frame—a result of balanced ripeness and careful extraction. It pairs beautifully with game meats, aged cheeses, and hearty alpine fare such as polenta with wild mushrooms or slow-braised short ribs.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Foradori is one of Italy’s most respected artisan wineries, led by the visionary Elisabetta Foradori, who took over the family estate in the 1980s at just 20 years old. She is credited with reviving Teroldego from near extinction, championing massal selection and terroir transparency. Since 2002, the estate has been fully biodynamic (Demeter certified), and Elisabetta has become a leading voice in sustainable viticulture in Italy.
Winemaking at Foradori is guided by natural principles: native yeast fermentations, amphorae and large botti aging, no fining or filtration, and minimal sulfur use. Today, Elisabetta’s son Emilio plays a leading role in both vineyard and cellar, continuing the family’s commitment to expressive, soulful wines that reflect Trentino’s alpine identity and deep-rooted heritage.
