ABOUT THE WINE
Murmuration is Johan Vineyards’ expressive, minimal-intervention red blend crafted to highlight both the diversity of estate-grown varietals and the playful side of natural winemaking in the Willamette Valley. The 2022 vintage is typically composed of a blend of Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, and St. Laurent—three grapes well-suited to Johan’s cool-climate, biodynamically farmed vineyard in the Van Duzer Corridor AVA. Each varietal is harvested and fermented separately using native yeasts, often with partial or full whole-cluster inclusion, and aged in neutral oak and/or amphora to preserve freshness and transparency.
The result is a wine that is bright, agile, and full of character—showing notes of tart red fruit, cracked pepper, dried herbs, and forest floor. Its name, Murmuration, references the swirling, dynamic flight patterns of starlings, evoking the blend’s fluidity and harmony.
Perfect with roast chicken, charred vegetables, wild mushroom dishes, or a simple cheese board, this is a red that shines slightly chilled and shared.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Johan Vineyards is a pioneering biodynamic estate located in the Van Duzer Corridor AVA of Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
